✦DISCOVERY PICKS✦

Just go there, broke boy

There’s a 1/24 chance that you’re a millionaire if you live in New York.

Okay, so more billionaires than ever are getting multiple passports and citizenships. It's mostly a means of mitigating risk, as the situation in the US is kinda getting unstable

But despite this, New York City still reigns as the place with the most rich people in the world. Actually, it's been that way since 2015.

Some numbers:

Moola demography: New York City has 349,500 millionaires, 744 centi-millionaires, and 60 billionaires

Hot dang: The city boasts a staggering $3 trillion in resident wealth and remains the top home for millionaires globally.

Growing fast: New York has nearly 350,000 millionaires, with a 48% increase over the past 10 years.

The crazy part: This means that approximately one in every 24 New Yorkers holds a seven-figure net worth—a significant rise from one in 36 back in 2013.

✦Other Billy Cities✦

No. 2: Trailing behind New York, the Bay Area secures the second spot: 305,000 millionaires, 675 centi-millionaires, and 68 billionaires. It goes without saying that most of this is thanks to tech.

The list of big-cap companies out of the Bay is seemingly endless: Adobe, Apple, Cisco, Facebook (Meta), Google (Alphabet), HP, Intel, LinkedIn, Lyft, Netflix, OpenAI, PayPal, Twitter, Uber, Yahoo, and Zoom.

No. 3: Tokyo holds third place, despite a 5% decline in its millionaire population over the last decade: 298,800 millionaires, 267 centi-millionaires, 14 billionaires

No. 4: Interestingly, Singapore has emerged as a prime relocation spot for the wealthy, drawing 3,400 high net-worth individuals in 2023 alone. Here’s the stats: 224,800 millionaires, 336 centi-millionaires, 30 billionaires.

No 5: Back in 2000, London was the number one city in the world for millionaires. No longer, though: As of today, London has 227,000 millionaires, 370 centi-millionaires, and 30 billionaires.

Responsibility is cool

Collecting gold beans is China’s youth’s idea of chic

While Western youth is too busy poppin' beans, China's youth are into collecting golden beans.

Yepp, a recent Chinese trend has popped up where many gold jewelry brands are launching products in small gram quantities.

Here’s a crash course:

Gold: According to the "2021 China Gold and Jewelry Consumption Survey White Paper," consumers aged 25 to 35 account for over 70% of gold shop customers. And now, e-commerce platforms have become a significant channel for young people to buy gold.

Cute formats: There, small gram gold is selling like hotcakes. Examples include: "Golden Beans", "Golden Peas," and "Golden Melon Seeds."

Entry-level balling: These usually weigh about 1 gram and are generally priced at over 500 yuan ($69). Compared to larger gold bars weighing tens or hundreds of grams, young people get a low entry to investing in gold.

✦China’s idea of chic is different✦

Think of it like the Stanley Cup trend. Drinking water is healthy, with a Stanley Cup people could show off taking responsibility Most importantly, the product embodies that in how durable, and long-term it is.

Similarly, China says wealth is health.

The idea of saving one each month and accumulating gold beans over a lifetime to protect their wealth is simply cool and responsible to them.

And of course, there's now a whole economy of accessories for the golden beans. There's vials, bottles, and jars for you to plop your little golden babies in.

The transparent storage is key, because Chinese social media is crazy about sharing photos or videos showing off their gold.

The perfect apartment complex doesn’t exi- …

Privacy, fresh air, and gardens should in theory be the perfect ingredients for ultimate apartment living.

At least that was the fundamentals behind Habitat 67, nestled on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal, Quebec.

Designed by architect Moshe Safdie for the 1967 World Expo, this iconic apartment complex was meant to be a perfect testament to visionary architecture and urban living.

Habitat 67 comprises 354 prefabricated concrete forms stacked in various combinations, reaching up to 12 stories high.

Each living module is a box and serves as an independent residence, complete with one to three bedrooms.

The genius of Safdie’s design is evident at first glance. The apartment boxes are stacked, and bridge across on top of each other in perfect chaos.

But that’s not for it to just look cool - they allow each unit to enjoy private terraces and gardens, a rare feature in multi-story apartment buildings.

The building's exterior and its harsh concrete forms, seem imposing at first glance. But they’re very carefully organized to liberate the residents.

This arrangement allows exceptional views of the surroundings, plus ensures that each apartment receives that sweet, sweet sunlight.

Today, Habitat 67 remains a vibrant community and a designated heritage landmark. Architectural aficionados and tourists constantly make pilgrimage to it to appreciate its historical significance and look.

You made it to the bottom. You must take knowledge very seriously.
