Here we go

Is iPhone 16 the “supercycle” catalyst?

There’s a new iPhone coming, and lots of people might take the bait.

Yes, according to analysts, you’re probably more likely to buy this generation than any of the past generations. That’s because many, many people are expected to buy into the new AI capabilities.

They’re calling it the “supercycle”:

Hype: This generation could break Apple's record of 231 million iPhones sold in 2015, some Wedbush Securities analysts believe. Also, analysts at Morgan Stanley predict that Apple’s AI innovations could accelerate iPhone replacement cycles, unlocking pent-up demand.

Haters: Despite the optimism, some analysts remain skeptical about the likelihood of a full-blown supercycle. They argue that the release of AI features will be staggered, and most features are not compelling enough to spur immediate upgrades. Moreover, Apple's challenges in China, a key market, may further temper sales growth.

✦Pressure✦

But, there are concerns; particularly from businesses.

Because of the way that these AI tools work, they’ll be handling lots of sensitive data. So, enterprises are applying pressure on Apple to prove how Apple Intelligence secures data.

Apple is trying to address these concerns by offering transparency logs to show where AI processing happens—on the device or in Apple’s cloud system.

Apple is also allowing companies to control how their employees use these AI features, including integration with ChatGPT, which will require user permission before sending data to its servers.

While some are skeptical, others believe that as consumers become more comfortable with AI on their devices, it could pave the way for wider business adoption.

Enterprises like Walmart and S&P Global see potential in AI but emphasize that security and privacy issues need to be resolved before it becomes widespread in the business world. In essence, Apple’s AI efforts could help more people get used to using AI, potentially accelerating its use in workplaces.

Up: Bitcoin surged 5.6% to $57,444 after Wall Street's rebound from its worst week of 2024. Analysts suggest prices remain sensitive to macro factors, with limited catalysts for significant growth.

Up up: Palantir shares surged 14% after being added to the S&P 500, reaching their highest since early 2021. Dell also joined the index, replacing American Airlines and Etsy. Palantir’s Q2 net income rose significantly, reflecting profitability.

Down: Apple lost its appeal over a €13 billion Irish tax bill, while Google lost its challenge to a €2.4 billion fine for market abuse. Both rulings boost the EU's crackdown on Big Tech.

Afraid of cancer in your ass? Eat fiber.

Cancer in the ass is getting more and more common — and you don’t want that. Actually, colon cancer rates are rising among young adults, and a lack of dietary fiber may be the culprit.

Fiber is a god-tier nutrient that helps with everything; heart and digestive health, blood sugar regulation, weight management, and gut bacteria.

And of course, high fiber intake is linked to a lower risk of colon cancer.

Here’s how you can get more fiber in you:

- Replace refined grains with whole-grain options like whole-wheat pasta or brown rice.

- Add more fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes to your meals.

- Gradually increase fiber intake and drink more water to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort.

- Snack on fiber-rich foods like nuts or an apple.

Fiber comes in two types: soluble and insoluble.

Soluble fiber helps remove cholesterol from the body and softens your poop, reducing bloating and constipation.

You’ll find these fibers in: Fruits: Bananas, apples, citrus fruits, avocados, carrots, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, black beans, lima beans, kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas, oats, barley

Insoluble fiber promotes fullness by slowing digestion, improves insulin sensitivity, and helps control blood sugar levels.

You’ll find these fibers in: Whole-wheat flour, wheat bran, brown rice, green beans, cauliflower, potatoes (with skin), zucchini, almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, lentils, black beans.

Take care of your brown.

THE DEPTHS

Ah, fuck

They had to move this 1200-ton statue

See that statue? It weighs 1,200 tons, is 57 meters (190 feet) tall, and is made of bronze and steel.

And they had to move it. The whole thing.

The statue is a depiction of the revered Chinese war god, Guan Yu. It was a colossal tribute to the legendary general, who is famed for his loyalty and martial prowess during the Three Kingdoms period.

After it was completed in 2016, it became a symbol of controversy. The statue, big as it is, was dismantled after just five years in 2021 due to widespread complaints from residents.

Many locals felt that the statue clashed with the historical character of the city and referred to it as an "eyesore." Also, structural issues came up as the land beneath the statue began to sink under its enormous weight, raising concerns about safety.

The dismantling of the statue became a high-profile and costly endeavor, with the process amounting to a staggering $24 million.

This expense pissed people off even more. Critics pointed out the initial investment in building the monument and questioned the decision to erect it in such a problematic location.

While the dismantling is finished, the relocation project has not been fully completed. As of early 2023, the statue has not yet been reassembled at its new site in Dianjiangtai, about 8 kilometers away from its original location.
